There wasn't a whole lot of change in the overall standings this week. The Yanks and Red Sox continue to duke it out for the AL East lead, and the A's and Rangers are running 1-2 in the AL West. Cleveland had the best week, going 5-1 to move up to 3rd place in the AL East. The Royals continue to disappoint, suffering from inconsistent relief pitching and a lack of timely hitting.

Reggie Jackson hit a homerun and had 3 RBI at Memorial Stadium as the
Baltimore Orioles beat the Detroit Tigers in 23 innings 9 to 6.
Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings. Baltimore ended up
winning it in the 23rd inning. After an out was recorded, Al Bumbry began
the rally when he drew a walk. One out later, Jackson stepped up to the
plate and he was walked intentionally. Lee May then lofted a three-run bomb
(his 6th of the season) giving Baltimore the win much to the delight of the
home town crowd. This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead
changed hands 6 times.
Mike Flanagan(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1/3 of an
inning. John Hiller(2-1) was the loser in relief. He allowed 1 hit and 3
walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.

American League - May 17
The Yankees and A's continue to play great baseball and lead their divisions. The Royals had a bad week and are only 13-13 after 26 games. As a team, the A's are only batting .234 but they lead the league in runs scored thanks to their wide margin in stolen bases (they have 74 and the next highest team has 34) and their 26 home runs in 30 games.
