National League - May 28

Don Sutton and two Dodger relievers ended Pete Rose's hitting streak at 25 games. The Reds had a runner on first base with 1 out in the bottom of the 8th with Dan Driessen at bat and Rose on deck. Pete was denied a final chance to extend his streak when Driessen hit into an inning-ending double play. The Reds were ahead, so when the Dodgers failed to score in the top of the 9th that was it for the game and the streak. Cincinnati extended its winning streak to ten games and now lead the 2nd-place Dodgers by 7 games in the NL West.

Player of the Day: Reggie Smith went 5 for 5 with 4 RBI and 3 runs as the Cardinals beat the New York Mets 13-3. The Cardinals are now 1/2 game out of first place in the NL East.

Pitcher of the Day: John Curtis had a complete game victory over the Mets. Only one of the three runs he allowed was earned.
