The Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets both had good weeks and increased their leads. The Reds have won seven straight games. Pete Rose has now hit in 23 straight games. Joe Morgan and Ken Griffey continue to be at the top of the batting average leader board, and Rawly Eastwick has gotten over some early rough outings and moved to the top of the saves leaderboard.
The Mets are doing it mostly with pitching. Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, and Jon Matlack have each won five games. Bob Apodaca has been a good reliever. Mickey Lolich and Craig Swan are pitching well on days the big three don't start. Dave Kingman has really struggled (.133 with 4 HR so far) but others such as Joe Torre, Ed Kranepool, and Jon Milner have picked up the slack.
The San Francisco Giants continue to struggle. Willie Montanez and Bobby Murcer are hitting well, but the starting pitchers are getting hammered, which is putting a strain on the bullpen. The Giants are 12-28 (.300) right now, but that is only one game under their real-life pace. They finished with a .457 winning percentage, so we'll see how it goes.
