1976 National League - Week 6 in Review

There hasn't been much change in the standings this week. Although it looks like the Giants are seriously underperforming, they have the same record as actual through the 6th week. Keith Hernandez hit seven home runs all season and he already has that many after week 6. It will be interesting to see how many he ends up with. Jerry Koosman continues to have a microscopic ERA for the Mets.

National League - May 16

Player of the Day: Jerry Morales was 3 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI in the Cubs' 7-2 win over the San Diego Padres.
Pitcher of the Day: Gary Nolan pitched a 3-hit shutout against the Houston Astros.

National League - May 15

Pitcher of the Day: Tom Seaver held the Reds for 10 innings before the Mets scored in the top of the 11th. Tom needed relief help in the bottom of the 11th, but he got the victory to go to 5-2 on the season.

May 15 scores:
  • Pittsburgh 2, Los Angeles 1
  • Atlanta 5, Montreal 4 (game 1)
  • Atlanta 3, Montreal 2 (game 2)
  • New York 4, Cincinnati 3 (11)
  • Philadelphia 9, Houston 1
  • St. Louis 2, San Francisco 1

I goofed and didn't save the game descriptions, so I don't know who the Player of the Day would be.

National League - May 13

Only one game today. I took over managing the Giants in hopes of reversing their awful start, but I didn't do any better than Hal. The Giants lost in the 14th inning after a hit, two errors, and a wild pitch.
Player of the Day: Rick Monday went 3 for 7 with a home run in the Cubs' victory.
Pitcher of the Day: Gary Lavelle pitched five scoreless innings in relief to keep the Giants in the game.

1976 National League - Week 5 in Review

The NL East is really tight with four teams within a game of each other. The Mets are doing it mainly with pitching -- they have a 2.47 team ERA but are batting only .237. Keith Hernandez is carrying the Cardinals (.406, 7 HR, 24 RBI). Ken Griffey and Joe Morgan are leading the NL in batting average and are helping to keep the Cincinnati Reds ahead of the LA Dodgers in the West.
