National League - August 14


Player of the Day: Tim McCarver went 3 for 5 with a home run and 6 RBI as the Phillies thrashed the San Francisco Giants 11-0.

Pitcher of the Day: Randy Jones pitched a 2-hit shutout against the Montreal Expos. The Padres won the game 3-0.

National League - July 4

Player of the Day: Ed Kranepool was 3 for 3 with 2 HR and 6 RBI as the Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 7-6.


Pitcher of the Day: Randy Jones and Tommy John had a great duel but neither one came away with the win. Jones pitched 11 innings of shutout ball and John shut the Padres out for 10.2 innings. San Diego eventually won the game 2-0 in 13 innings

National League - May 17





Players of the Day: Pete Rose and George Foster. With the Reds trailing the LA Dodgers 4-1 with 2 out in the top of the 9th, Rose hit a 3-run homer off of Don Sutton to tie the game.
In the top of the 10th Foster hit a 3-run homer to win the game for the Reds. Cincinnati is now 3 1/2 games ahead of Los Angeles in the NL West.
Pitcher of the Day: Randy Jones pitched a complete game 9-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

Player of the Day: Bobby Murcer was 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI to help the Giants to a 5-1 win over the Chicago Cubs

Pitcher of the Day: Randy Jones pitched a 4-hit, 0-walk shutout against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Player of the Day: Gary Matthews. He homered twice and had 4 RBI for the Giants in a 9-7 loss to the Houston Astros.

Pitcher of the Day: Randy Jones pitched a shutout and outdueled Don Sutton as the San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0.
