- The biggest story of the month of August is probably the Oakland A's making the AL West a race. The division-leading Kansas City Royals have lost six straight games and the A's have won five in a row. The Royals now lead the division by only one game.
- Rod Carew leads the AL in batting average. The other three guys who were in the batting average race in real life (George Brett, Hal McRae, and Lyman Bostock) are also in the mix, but Carew has a pretty good lead with a month to go in the season.
- Rich Coggins and Steve Waterbury shouldn't be on the pitching leaderboards. Something happened to the stats compiler sometime in June. I crossed out some of their appearances, but I missed a few.
