- The Cleveland Indians finally broke their 10-game winning streak on Sunday, but they are now 5 1/2 games behind the AL East leading New York Yankees.
- Jim Palmer and Vida Blue are in a great race for the Cy Young Award. Both pitchers have won their last two starts and each have 19 wins on the season. It may come down to ERA -- Blue has a 2.18 ERA while Palmer has a 2.52 ERA.
- Oakland has quietly crept back up on the Kansas City Royals. The A's are now 3 games behind the Royals in the AL West. Gene Tenace has been a force on offense with the second most (25) home runs in the league. Bill North has 83 stolen bases and is threatening to steal over 100 for the season.
