Players of the day: Amos Otis hit a 3-run homer that provided the margin needed for the Royals to win the first game of a doubleheader. John Mayberry hit a 2-run shot in the 1^st inning to game 2 and the Royals were able to hold on and win 2-1 for the sweep.

Pitcher of the day: Frank Tanana pitched a 2-hit shutout against the Oakland A’s. Tanana walked two and struck out nine as he improved his record to 12-8 with a 2.33 ERA.
