Player of the Day: Dave Concepcion was 3 for 4 with a homer and 4 RBI in Cincinnati’s thrilling 9-8 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. After the Phillies tied the game at 4-4, Johnny Bench hit a grand slam to put the Reds ahead 8-4. The Phillies scored 1 run in the 8th and 3 more in the top of the 9th to tie the game. In the bottom of the 10th Pete Rose doubled in Joel Youngblood to win the game for the Reds.

Pitcher of the Day: Dick Ruthven shut out the Montreal Expos 3-0. He allowed eight hits but didn’t walk anyone.

National League - April 25

Player of the Day: Dave Concepcion hit a grand slam to pace the Reds to a 9-1 victory over the Montreal Expos.

Jon Matlack pitched a complete game 6-1 victory over the Houston Astros.
