Player of the Day: Ed Kranepool was 3 for 3 with 2 HR and 6 RBI as the Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 7-6.

Pitcher of the Day: Randy Jones and Tommy John had a great duel but neither one came away with the win. Jones pitched 11 innings of shutout ball and John shut the Padres out for 10.2 innings. San Diego eventually won the game 2-0 in 13 innings

Player of the Day: Mike Schmidt was 3 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI in the Phillies' 10-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Pitcher of the Day: Tommy John shut the Giants out 6-0. It was the third shutout of the Giants in a row for the Dodgers.

National League - May 8

Player of the Day: Joe Morgan hit 2 homers and had 5 RBI in the Reds' 9-8 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

Pitcher of the Day: Tommy John allowed 1 run in a complete game victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. His record is now 5-0.

Crazy day -- The Giants and Expos played a 16-inning game. The Cincinnati Reds scored five runs in the top of the 9th inning to take a 8-3 lead over the Chicago Cubs only to have the Cubs score six runs in the bottom of the inning to win it 9-8.

National League - May 1

Player of the Day: Steve Yeager was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI and a home run in the Dodgers' 6-2 win over St. Louis.

Pitcher of the Day: Tommy John pitched a complete game victory in the aforementioned Dodger win, allowing two runs and striking out eight Cardinals.
