American League - July 23


Player of the Day: Roy White was 3 for 4, homered twice, scored three runs, and had 5 RBI in the Yankees’ 7-2 win over the Boston Red Sox.




Pitcher of the Day: Marty Pattin outdueled Vide Blue and beat the Oakand A’s 1-0. Pattin allowed three hits in the game as the Royals got a big win over their division rival.

Player of the Day: Gorman Thomas hit a grand slam with 2 out in the top of the 8th inning to break a 2-2 tie and lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.




Pitcher of the Day: Ray Bare pitched a complete game victory over the Chicago White Sox in game 2 of a doubleheader. Bare scattered eight hits and didn’t walk anyone.

Player of the Day: Rennie Stennett went 2 for 4 and tripled in the winning run in the top of the 9th inning off of Tug McGraw as the Pirates beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3.




Pitcher of the Day: Rich Rhoden allowed one run in 9 innings in the Dodgers’ 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres. Rick also had three hits.

Player of the Day: Manny Sanguillen went 4 for 4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI to lead the Pirates to a 6-4 victory over the Houston Astros in game 1 of a doubleheader. Manny doubled in the eventual winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning.
Pitcher of the Day: Jim Kaat allowed two hits and one run as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Diego Padres 3-1.

Pitcher of the Day: Mark Fidrych pitched a complete game 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Fidrych allowed one run on four hits.
