National League - August 26


Player of the Day: Greg Luzinski was 4 for 6 with a home run and six RBI in the Phillies’ 14-5 romp over the Cincinnati Reds.

Pitcher of the Day: Rick Reuschel allowed one run in seven innings to earn his 11th win.

National League - August 25


Player of the Day: Mike Schmidt had a single, a double, a home run, and a sacrifice fly. Schmidt knocked in three runs and scored twice as the Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 7-5. The Phillies are now seven games behind the New York Mets in the NL East.


Pitcher of the Day: Doug Rau shut out the Montreal Expos. Rau allowed six hits and didn’t walk anyone.

Player of the Day: Cecil Cooper. The Boston Red Sox were behind 5-4 in the bottom of the 9th inning. After Carlton Fisk singled, Cooper hit a 2-run homer to win the game for the Red Sox.

Pitcher of the Day: Jim Willoughby got the win, so he gets the nod for Pitcher of the Day

Player of the Day: Larry Hisle went 3 for 4 with a home run and three stolen bases in Minnesota’s 5-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians

Pitcher of the Day: Jim Palmer had a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers going into the 9th inning. Mike Hargrove singled with one out in the 9th to break up the no-hitter. Palmer ended up with a one-hit shutout to improve his record to 19-11.

Player of the Day: Reggie Jackson hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 7th and singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th as Baltimore beat the Oakland A’s 5-4.

Pitcher of the Day: Pete Redfern allowed three runs in 7 1/3 innings and the Twins held on to beat the New York Yankees 5-3. Redfern improved his record to 3-12.

.Player of the Day: Sal Bando hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 4th inning to lead the Oakland A’s to a 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The A’s remain 5.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals in the AL West.

Pitcher of the Day: Mike Torrez allowed one run in eight innings in the A’s win over the Orioles.
