American League - August 18



Player of the Day: Chris Chambliss hit two home runs and went 3 for 4 with 5 RBI as the Yankees beat the Texas Rangers 8-6.

Pitcher of the Day: Al Fitzmorris pitched a 4-hit shutout to help the Royals cool off the  Cleveland Indians. The Indians have dropped back to four games behind the New York  Yankees in the AL East.

A total of six future Hall of Famers pitched today: Nolan Ryan (started and lost), Fergie Jenkins (started and won), Jim Palmer (started and won), Dennis Eckersley (started and lost), Rich Gossage (started and lost), and Rollie Fingers (earned a save)
