American League - August 10

Player of the Day: John Mayberry hit a 2-run double in the bottom of the 11th to propel the Kansas City Royals to a 6-5 win over the New York Yankees. The Royals are now 6 ½ games ahead of the second-place Oakland A’s in the AL West.

Pitcher of the Day: Fergie Jenkins pitched a 5-hit shutout against the California Angels. Jenkins is now 12-7 on the season.

Honorable mention for Pitcher of the Day: Jim Slaton had a no-hitter going into the 9th inning but he tired and almost lost the game. Slaton allowed singles to Bill North and Don Baylor in the 9th inning.
