American League - August 10

Player of the Day: John Mayberry hit a 2-run double in the bottom of the 11th to propel the Kansas City Royals to a 6-5 win over the New York Yankees. The Royals are now 6 ½ games ahead of the second-place Oakland A’s in the AL West.

Pitcher of the Day: Fergie Jenkins pitched a 5-hit shutout against the California Angels. Jenkins is now 12-7 on the season.

Honorable mention for Pitcher of the Day: Jim Slaton had a no-hitter going into the 9th inning but he tired and almost lost the game. Slaton allowed singles to Bill North and Don Baylor in the 9th inning. Danny Frisella came in, allowed a Joe Rudi single that scored North, and then was able to get Sal Bando out to preserve the 2-1 win.
