Player of the Day: Mike Schmidt was 4 for 4 with a 3-run homer in the first game of a doubleheader. In game 2 Mike homered again as the Phillies swept the San Diego Padres.
Pitcher of the Day: Larry Dierker pitched a 2-hit shutout against the Chicago Cubs.
