National League - May 24

Player of the Day: Gary Carter was 2 for 4 with 2 HR and 3 RBI as the Expos beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-1.
Pitcher of the Day: Gary Lavelle pitched 3.1 innings of shutout relief to earn the save in the Giants' victory over the Houston Astros.

This game had an exciting ending. The Phillies had a 3-0 lead going into the 9th inning. The Mets rallied and had the bases loaded with two out and one run in. Pinch hitter Jerry Grote singled to left. Left fielder Jerry Martin threw out the runner on second to preserve the win for the Phillies. I had just barely inserted Martin as a defensive replacement for Greg Luzinski, so it was cool to see a move work out like that. :)
